Kwame Asare Obeng, commonly known as ‘A Plus’, has labeled President Akufo-Addo as an “opportunist” and a “self-centered person,” claiming that the President only engages with others when it benefits him. A Plus, who was elected as the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, expressed these views during the extended coverage of Ghana Decides 2024 on TV3 on December 13, 2024.
In response to a question from co-host Johnnie Hughes about whether President Akufo-Addo had reached out to congratulate him following his election victory, A Plus shared that their relationship soured in 2018. He mentioned that after raising concerns about the actions of some of Akufo-Addo’s appointees, the President distanced himself, and they have not communicated since. However, A Plus noted that Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the outgoing MP for Assin Central and 2024 NPP flag bearer hopeful, helped arrange a phone call between him and the President shortly before the 2020 elections, at a time when Akufo-Addo was uncertain about his prospects.
